FILM DESCRIPTIONS & RATINGS

“Tearing Down The Tent” (PG): 2pm Friday
This documentary from North Carolina filmmaker Michael Knox grants viewers a backstage pass to one of the largest traveling tent circuses in the world, the Cole Bros. Circus, based in DeLand, Florida. The film presents the circus through the eyes of Jamie Reel as he visits the circus for the first time with director, Michael Knox, who grew up traveling with the circus. During the filming, Knox reflects on his days with the Cole Bros. Circus, as Reel gets to experience circus life first hand. Through Reel's adventures we see a behind the scenes look at the circus life, with Reel standing in the Moto-Globe of Death with a motorcycle racing around his head, working as a clown, riding an elephant and working with the camels. Through this journey we try to explore the real story behind one of America's most beloved pastimes.

“Tod Browning’s: Freaks” (PG): 4pm Friday
In the original classic from 1932, a circus' beautiful trapeze artist agrees to marry the wealthy leader of a group of sideshow performers, but his deformed friends soon discover that she is only marrying him for his inheritance. Now, the sideshow performers must band together to try and stop the sinister woman, begging the question, which ones are truly the “freaks” at this circus?

“Spoiler Alert!” (PG-13): 6pm Friday
Award winning indie film Spoiler Alert (Trail Dance Film Festival "Director's Choice Award") is a black comedy/thriller focusing on the power and temptations of the Internet. Brad, the snarky operator of an insider movie scoop website, has fun trashing big shot Hollywood director Harrison Kane's work. But when Harrison shows up on his doorstep with a loaded gun, things go from funny to bloody. Chinese food, movie geek talk and murder ensue in this must-see nerd-fest.

“Liar’s Pendulum” (R): 8pm Friday
Liar's Pendulum is set in the fictitious city of Johanna in the near future. The main character, Alaric Almalquilar (a.k.a. Johnny Joe Blue), is a charismatic, street-smart ex-cop-turned-private Investigator/bounty hunter. Dauntless and of dubious nobility, he is on the run from pernicious forces bent on stopping him from getting his hands on top-secret, stolen research technology that everybody wants and only he knows where to acquire. Alaric's mission is to get the technology safely underground to a benevolent order of scientists before it falls into the wrong hands. However, as he gets closer to acquiring the top-secret technology and his pursuers close in, we learn that there is a lot more to Alaric's story than meets the eye.

“The Feed” (R): 10pm Friday
The wildly popular TV reality series, Ghost Chasers, is hitting its 4th year on the air; to commemorate this milestone; the members of the Ghost Chasers team have decided to broadcast their anniversary show live from the historic Brenway Theatre in rural Pennsylvania where they will investigate several reports of hauntings. Little do they know, however, that this theatre actually is haunted, and the Ghost Chasers team will soon encounter a reality TV set that’s a lot more real than any of them bargained for. Fast-paced, wildly exciting, and ultimately terrifying, The Feed is a must-see for any fan of the paranormal… or anyone who enjoys a good horror movie that’s actually scary!

“The Darkest Matter”: (PG): 12pm Saturday
The Darkness slumbers inside us all. In the wake of abandoning their colony ship an escape pod full of children gets damaged and must reroute to a nearby space station. Upon arrival the kids find the station has been powered down and appears abandoned. Their survival depends on their ability to control the derelict station, and their time to be rescued is rapidly running out. "The Darkest Matter" is an original feature-length film spotlighting 6-12th grade acting and film production talent. Taught and produced by trained film professionals James Fox (Owner/Director, Dawnrunner Productions) and Geoff Peck (Director of Photography, Dawnrunner Productions), the goal of the project was to educate students in advanced filmmaking techniques and on-camera acting. The key production and shooting days of the film took place during a five-week-long summer camp, which enabled hands-on instruction on a true-to-life film set.

“Devil’s Crossing: A Zombie Western” (PG-13): 6pm Saturday
Nuclear war has ravaged the world. The remnants of humanity fight to survive, taking refuge in bleak settlements. The undead wander the earth, slaves to their blood lust, or perhaps some higher power? The tattered town of Celestial sets the stage for the greatest battle of the New Dark Age! Shadrach, a man who watched his life burnt to the ground, has a score that must be settled and a reckoning that has been 235 years in the making. Left for dead, having sold his soul to the devil with his last dying breath is now a slave to the devil. Born again as a "Soul Collector". Now centuries later, Shadrach fights to be freed from the chains of the demons that torment him. To regain his soul and save the lives of an entire town he must fight the living dead as hell literally rises from beneath!

“The Dead Matter” (R): 8pm Saturday
Gretchen is a grieving young woman obsessed with contacting her deceased brother. When she discovers a strange ancient relic (a scarab-shaped amulet which controls the dead,) she finds herself driven into a tangled, dark web of terror. Caught between two warring vampire lords, each with their own sinister plans for the amulet, and a vampire-hunter hell-bent on destroying it; Gretchen must come face-to-face with her greatest fears, and choose the fate of the powerful but dangerous amulet. Andrew Divoff (Lost, Wishmaster), Jason Carter (Babylon 5) and Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead, From Dusk Til Dawn) star in this dark-fantasy horror directed by Midnight Syndicate’s Edward Douglas.

“Eat Me: A Zombie Musical” (NR): 10pm Saturday
In this highly-bizarre, and wildly irreverent cult-comedy musical, Peter, a man who believes himself to be dead, sets off on a wandering journey in a big white school bus to find the afterlife. Along the way he encounters a sordid, and insanely ridiculous cast of characters, both living, dead, and immortal. Eventually though, Peter and his companions reach the afterlife… and it’s a rave club filled with zombies! Peppered with commercials for unusual and sometimes disturbing products and what appear to be public service announcements, Eat Me: A Zombie Musical will definitely offer a brand new (and very strange) perspective on the musical genre. Not for the faint of heart, the serious of temperament… or the easily offended!

“A Few Brains More” (NR): 12pm Sunday
In this North Carolina-made thriller, the journey of zombie Lily and Jack from the original “Fistful of Brains” continues in the 1970's where they fight Dead Eye and his hippie hordes in the Summer of Blood! Writer/Director Christine Parker will be in attendance to present the film’s RoundCon premiere, as well as briefly answer audience questions after the screening.

“Wanderlost” (PG-13): 2pm Sunday
Drifter is a train hopping gutter punk. Alone in the world, isolated by years of ritual abuse and life on the fringe, he returns to his father's grave to try and break the evil curse that haunts him. Here he sees salvation in a beautiful young artist who could be his key to freedom. But they will soon discover that curses like this don't die so easily.

“Night of the Living Dead”: (PG): 4pm Sunday
In the original horror classic from 1968, a group of survivors try to fight off a horde of zombies by taking refuge inside a farmhouse. The survivors struggle amongst themselves as they try and figure out what caused the dead to rise and seek human flesh. Outside, the mindless zombies wait for their chance to feast. The film that started it all for the current zombie craze has lived on for decades, and continues to be a major cult-classic to this day.
